What if the boarders of housing were ever-changing?
What if the housing and the recreational were merged?
What if the private became public, and the public private?
The project began with both Hagai and myself locating a physical quality in our residences. We then paired up and planed an extremely small housing unit based on the two qualities we had defined - typologies of views and diffusion potential between spaces.
The living unit we planned is situated inside an existing location. On the threshold between a pub and an office space, a location that enables a functional osmosis an diversity between the private living unit and the public surroundings. The unit shares infrastructural elements with its surroundings and can open and close itself off with the large shades, creating a myriad of complex views and interactions. The dynamic structure of the unit enables it to relate to its surroundings in a flexible manner.
In the second stage of the project we examined the potential for multiplicity, based on the original qualities selected. When examining a specific office site we discovered that 15% of it was vacant despite its central location. Based on this we decided to intervene and propose a new organizational structure for the floors. We propose moving walls, enabling dynamic interactions and various area divisions based on changing needs both in the short term and in the long. Thus in the short term enabling various interaction between the units throughout the day, and in the long term enabling the spaces to be either housing or office space depending on the market needs.
